Filtering
How it Works

The filtering is loaded into Windows™ sub-system and, in essence, becomes part of your operating system.  It is not loaded into memory during boot-up, or during Internet connection, and thereby is almost impossible to remove from your computer by unauthorized users.

When you first connect to the Internet, the filter authenticates your user profile login with our servers, so that we know who you are, and provide custom filtering based on that profile's configuration.  Rest assured that this authentication process is encrypted, and that no private information from your system is being collected, and your account information is safely guarded.

Whenever you attempt to request a website from the Internet, whether by clicking a link, typing a URL ("Uniform Resource Locator -- also called a web address) into the your Address bar, or simply open your Internet browser to your homepage, the filter is called into action.  Before any site can be requested from the Internet, this URL is sent to our servers for examination.

Our server-side analysis process quickly examines the request for specific sites based on your profile's filtering criteria.  In addition, if you are at a search engine, our servers will also check to ensure that your search phrase does not meet these criteria.  If everything checks out, your request is allowed to pass.  If not, you will see a blocked screen.  This whole process usually takes place in less than a second.

Our server database and analysis has been refined over the years to offer the most reliable and trusted blocking process.  Our staff and web-spider technology carefully examine all sites which are added to our blocked list of sites.  While we add literally thousands of sites every week, by carefully examining each one, you can remain confident that we do not over-block unnecessary sites.

Our intelligent keyword filter, which is enabled whenever you search at a search engine, is specific enough to prevent access to the thousands of new pornography sites that hit the search engines every day, but is also carefully designed to allow access to educational and medical sites.
